William Coates Palgrave undertakes five diplomatic missions into Hereroland and Namaland (modern Namibia) on behalf of the Cape Colony (18761885). His journals record indigenous leaders' appeals for incorporation into the Cape and their discussions on regional governanceefforts ultimately thwarted by British interference, paving the way for German colonization.
